My work. For over 20 years, I have actively studied how our brains create... "us".
Who are we? How do we feel? Why do we want? What kinds of experiences change us? How can we overcome the worst that life can throw at us? Since 2008, I have led, conducted, and trained neuroscience research - especially within the realms of emotion, motivation, and resilience - as a student, staff scientist, course instructor, and research mentor at four "R1" universities, a VA Hospital, a non-profit, and a medical school. But during this time, I have also followed my passion to not only bring such knowledge to others inside and outside of science, but also to continue learning and training other scientists how to better communicate their work to others, regardless of their audience. |

In doing so, I've served as a writer, reviewer, editor, and proofreader for an array of written mediums, especially scientific writing for: peer-reviewed publication; intra- and extramural grant proposals; science journalism; and collegiate term papers.
I have also served as a director, developer, organizer, panelist/speaker, and host for an array of professional, scientific, and community conferences and workshops. I am also frequently involved in community-based outreach, advocacy, and activism - be it joining politicians for discussions of science-related policy or by orally presenting to those of all age groups in a wide variety of public venues such as K-12 schools, universities, libraries, museums, and more. |
